If exit polling becomes officially part of the election process, wouldn't exit polling be the target of the same kind of nefarious actions as the actual voting? Government is evil and attracts evil.

* Edit b/c I forgot to use a question mark at the end of a question. Doh! *

I agree. We've already seen the first stages of this.

Call me cynical, Josh, but I believe that a large swath of Democrats (my lifelong [pre-2020] party, btw), whether they would admit it or not, believe that such cheating would be warranted to keep Trump out of office. It's part of the Trump Derangement Syndrome (which I had and cured myself of) that believes Trump is THE "existential threat" (the result of years of fear-mongering and a Trump-hating press). So, as much as I'd love to see a bipartisan effort to address the current flaws in elections, I suspect it won't be done anytime soon, alas.

I've heard similar claims from some (former) election integrity activists I know.

Hi Josh, I hope you remember me? John Brakey. In 2005 or 6 I hosted you in Tucson.

Free Election Audit Tool Empowers Public to Verify Election Results.

TUCSON, AZ – October 9, 2024, Media, Election Departments, Candidates, and the Public are encouraged to Deploy ABE (Auditing Breakthrough for Election Transparency) — an independent, user-friendly tool designed to enhance transparency in elections. By utilizing Microsoft Excel’s advanced features, including Pivot Tables, ABE simplifies the process of organizing and analyzing data from two anonymous public records: the Cast Vote Record (CVR) Database and ballot images. By promoting transparency, trust, and fact-based analysis, ABE fosters the trust needed to strengthen our democratic republic.

A new software tool for verifying election is now freely available from the nonpartisan nonprofit organization AUDIT USA (Americans United for Democracy, Integrity and Transparency in Elections). The philosophy behind the development of this tool is that most election records are public records and that citizens — including the media — should have the opportunity to review and verify these records to confirm election results for themselves.

In most election jurisdictions in the U.S., voters’ anonymous ballots are scanned and tabulated by digital scan voting machines that scan each ballot, create a picture of that ballot, and then count the votes from the picture, not from the paper ballot itself. The picture of each ballot is called a ballot image. The voting system creates a spreadsheet, called the Cast Vote Record (CVR), that interprets, tabulates, and records the votes from each ballot image. This two-part voting record (the ballot images and CVR), includes early voting, mail-in ballots, Election Day polling places, and provisional votes. The ballot images and CVR are vital verification and audit records of each election. AUDIT USA’S new election-verification tool hyperlinks each ballot image to the CVR spreadsheet record of that vote, allowing anyone to self-audit the election records.

Called “ABE,” the tool is a Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheet with built-in programming that hyperlinks ballot images to the anonymous record of each vote in the CVR spreadsheet. It uses Excel’s capabilities to provide analysis and filtering of the voting data and makes it possible to audit elections at the basic level of a voting precinct. Results can also be filtered and verified by election contest, or filtered by overvotes, undervotes, or write-in votes. Microsoft Office and its Excel application are used widely and have a familiar interface. ABE makes it quick and convenient to identify ballots that may have been completed incorrectly but still show a voter’s intent; for instance, when a voter circles a candidate’s name instead of filling-in a circle to designate their vote.

“ABE” stands for “A Better Election,” and is inspired by Abraham Lincoln’s commitment to transparency and every person’s right to information. A lack of transparency invites claims of election fraud, which has led to division in our country and an increase in problems and violence surrounding our elections. In Barbara F. Walter’s 2022 book ‘How Civil Wars Start,’ she states, “While elections can be an important tool for reducing conflict, they must be carefully managed and conducted in a way that is fair, transparent, and inclusive of all groups in society. ABE makes elections transparent for the public, the media, and members of any political party.

John Brakey, co-founder and director of Audit USA, said, “In our country we have crossed the Rubicon — there is no going back to a system telling us to trust unverified elections. We cannot continue to lurch from election to election without public confidence in the results. Winners will always believe they have won, but it is vitally important for losers to believe they have lost. Confidence in election results is good for all political parties, for voters, candidates, election officials, and our country.”

ABE helps election officials, candidates, political parties, and the public identify inaccurate election results that could arise from the voting system’s misinterpretation of a vote on a ballot, or from equipment malfunction or manipulation. It restores public confidence in the democratic election process that is the foundation of our country.

Audit USA invites members of the media to use ABE for 2024 election analysis. As you request ballot images and Cast Vote Records from the voting districts of your viewers, ABE will help your news outlet provide objective analysis of the election results and a transparent overview of the vote-tabulating portion of the election process. This will be an especially helpful tool for the media during the period of time between Election Day and election certification ABE is an entirely free tool.

Does anyone here recognize the name Richard Charnin, election integrity analyst? The last thing I remember seeing from him was basically a statistical validation of the 2016 election. Then, nothing.

Expand full comment

Yes, I know Richard, going back 20 years. I was unaware of his work on the 2016 election. I believe that Hillary should have won the 2016 election, but I admit I'm not as well-informed about the 2016 race as earlier ones.

Sorry to diss a one-time colleague but Richard's analyses were deeply flawed. His math was fine but he had a tendency to play fast and loose with input assumptions. It took a lot of scrutiny and digging -- and I confess I've forgotten the details -- but his whole TruVote analysis, relied on to validate E2016 results, was flawed by the false assumptions Richard made. Not unlike several other dubious efforts made in support of Trump's claims of fraud against him. Garbage in, garbage out. If you want to review my own analysis of E2020, here it is: https://codered2014.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/TheRealSteal-IntroAnalysisCombinedUpdated-js8_WWW-2.pdf. I think you will find that it is free of compromising assumptions.

Both parties participate in the process and neither one wants to stop it. Gore upset the unwritten agreement when he wouldn’t accept the results of the 2000 election like Nixon did after Kennedy stole the 1960 election. Trump was just following Gore’s lead but he forgot he needed a judge somewhere to agree to the challenge unlike Gore who had the Judges in his corner.

Expand full comment

Coupla things...

Gore did NOT contest the stolen 2000 election, in which Bush's brother gave him Florida by less than 400 votes, and then the Supreme Court intervened to stop the recount! Gore, being VP, presided over the joint House/Senate meeting that formally ratified the Electoral College decision, and despite loud protests, he banged his gavel and silenced the dissent -- giving the election to his opponent.

Kennedy did NOT steal the 1960 election. There was evidence of ballot-box stuffing, most notably in Chicago. But Kennedy won the electoral college by a comfortable 303 to 219.

Lol. If Gore had had the judges/justices in his corner, Scalia would have had to write the *dissent* in Bush v. Gore, and Gore would have been president. In 2020, Trump won (sort of) exactly ONE of over 60 legal challenges, more than a dozen of which were decided by judges TRUMP had appointed. So I'm not sure your reasoning is sound.

None got past the standings question. IE they never ruled on the facts. IE they played their role in protecting system. Just like the Supreme Court did in the 1st Amendment case where they punted on protecting the 1st Amendment by claiming that there was no standing IE the attorney general of a state doesn’t represent the people of the state who the federal government was actively engaged in threatening private companies who wouldn’t censor speech that the Federal government didn’t like.

As Mike Benz recently said, it used to be the Republicans were the Party of war and aligned with the Intelligence Community, but today it is the Democrats. While Bush/Cheney stole 2004 in Ohio, the Democrats (and RINOs, i.e., Lindsay Graham, Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy, many of the R Governors, etc.) stole 2000 with the help of the entire Establishment in lockstep claiming it was the most secure election in history.

Meanwhile, Georgia is still in the courts battling to keep the many missing ballots from 2000 hidden from the public, after numerous outrageous examples of intentional fraud, including repeatedly scanning the same ballots to force a match of the machine and hand counts. The Democrats are suing there to block a simple verification of machine counts by hand counting the ballots (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/georgia-elections-rules-lawsuit-democrats-2024-ballots/).

And in Nevada and elsewhere the ACLU is suing to stop any attempts to clean up the voter rolls after the Democrats have gotten many illegals onto the rolls (https://www.dailysignal.com/2024/10/02/nevada-election-chief-blocks-inspection-of-suspect-voter-names-in-swing-state/)

Follow Garland Favrito in Georgia who is spearheading a lot of the efforts there, https://x.com/VoterGa and Georgians for Truth https://x.com/Georgians4Truth. In Nevada, Robert Beadles of Washoe County is at the center of the efforts to adjudicate the fraud and his case has worked its way up through the courts, which have all rejected it, now to the SCOTUS, where someone took an interest (https://x.com/RobertBeadles/status/1840835890773446925).

It would be wonderful if the SCOTUS would actually HEAR election cases, and not reject them out of hand.

Most Americans are unaware that we had very rampant election fraud in our own history. It seems Dems naively assume people just won't cheat -- even as THEY cheat (2,000 mules). Questioning election integrity is verboten -- likely proof that the election apparatus lacks integrity. Did the Dems steal the 2020 election? -- Absolutely -- by covering up the truth of the Hunter Biden laptop: that alone would have been the end of Old Joe. Now, we don't hear a peep about Kamala Harris' brother-in-law, who makes Hunter look like a virgin compared to the graft this guy is involved in. There is no election integrity if the government itself has become a corrupt mafia organization. If you know an appeals judge that hasn't sold out like all of the judges that have been trashing her for years, you should make sure she knows about him/her. If you'd read the Wikipedia page, you'd know how entrenched Mesa County Colorado is against her.
