Here's the paradigm flip: Instead of being bodies inhabited by spirit, we are spirit temporarily inhabiting bodies. From that standpoint, you could start thinking of consciousness as pervading the universe, perhaps what the ancients called ether.
As I understand it, non-dualism is not the opposite of Cartesian Dualism, but rather it is the opposite of the idea that each human is a separate consciousness. I agree with your idea that consciousness pervaes the universe, and I don't think it conflicts with CD.
